About Edward J. Mele
Edward John Mele, 55, of Enfield, beloved husband for 26 years of Kristine (Dellaselva) Mele, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 27, 2022, in Enfield, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hartford on November 5, 1966, son of the late Leo and Theresa Ann (Onofri) Mele, he was raised in Windsor until the early 1980’s when his family moved to Allentown, PA. Ed graduated from Dieruff High School with the Class of 1984 and later continued his education at Albertus Magnus College where he received his bachelor’s degree and most recently Southern New Hampshire University where he received a Masters in Forensic Accounting. After high school, Ed enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Marine Corps Reserves until his discharge in 1987. While in the Marines, Ed trained as a diesel mechanic and after returning to Pennsylvania he worked for Hoosier Racing Tires before starting a career in the aviation industry in 1994. Ed worked for Hawthorne Aviation in Pennsylvania and in 1995 he returned to Connecticut and took a position with Signature Flight Support at Bradley International Airport where he worked for 24 years until his retirement in 2020. Prior to his recent illness, Ed enjoyed spending time at Airways Golf Course in West Suffield and spending time with his family. He loved sports and was a huge NASCAR, football and baseball fan and enjoyed rooting for his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Boston Red Sox. His love of family led him to attend and cheer on his kids, nieces, nephews, and other relatives as they participated in sports and other activities over the years. He was a member of the Suffield Sportsman’s Club where he enjoyed shooting, especially participating in their turkey and ham shoots, and he was a big history buff who especially enjoyed learning about the Vietnam War and World War II aviation history. He loved going to air shows and car shows and especially was fond of the Vought F4U Corsair and the 1969 GTO. Most of all, Ed was a family man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, time with family and friends, going on vacation with his wife, children, and friends, bowling, and playing golf or poker with family and friends. He knew people everywhere he went and was a sought-after advisor. To him, everyone was family.
